The former School of Mechanical and Offshore Engineering was created in 1882 making it one of the oldest engineering departments in Scotland. The School is now incorporated within the new School of Engineering.
This long history has seen many changes. Aberdeen has changed from having an economy based upon agriculture and fishing to one based on servicing the oil and gas industry. The change is not over.
In the twentieth first century new industries such as sustainable energy production and transportation, environmental amelioration and marine mineral extraction, will become increasingly important.
A new generation of engineers will be required, who are free from the constraints of twentieth century thinking, to drive these industries. I am sure that within our course portfolio, you will find the courses required by these new engineers.
I wish you good fortune with your choices and your future career.
