Guy Melville (FERG convenor) Originally trained in Chemical & Process Engineering (Heriot-Watt 1991), I have taken the path of environmental engineering. With the Institute of Offshore Engineering I worked on a wide variety of environmental consultancy projects for the oil industry. Amonst these was the modelling of atmospheric and marine pollutant dispersion. In 1996 I strengthed my interest in computer modelling with a Msc in CFD (Cranfield). My thesis involved the modelling of turbulent chemical reaction within a basic geometry static mixer. I followed this with a period of contact CFD/software engineering with Real Time Engineering Ltd before winding my way to The Robert Gordon University School of Mechanical and Offshore Engineering (SMOE) My interests, amongst others, include the modelling of environmental flows although most topics under the umbrella of CFD interest me. I am currently working with Professor Ian Bryden (SMOE) on the Optimisation (Electrical & Economic) of Tidal Current Turbines (OPT-Current). Additionally, I have registered for a PhD entitled The Hydrodynamic and Economic Modelling of Tidal Current Energy Conversion Systems. |
