| |
There are three methods for selecting colours in Quick
Colourways: |
| |
|
| 1. |
From any colour file |
| |
|
| 2. |
From the active palette. |
| |
|
| 3. |
From the selected colour picker. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
RECOLOURING FROM A COLOUR FILE |
| |
|
| |
Colours can be created and stored in a colour file, then be applied
to designs. Using a colour file to recolour a design is particularly
useful if you know the reference name of a colour. |
| |
|
| 1. |
Double click on the first colour chip in the Colourway
palette. The software will automatically switch to ColourSys and go
to the closest colour in the selected colour file. |
| |
| |
|
| |
  |
| |
|
| 2. |
Move around in the colour file to choose your new colour. |
| |
|
| 3. |
Highlight your prefered colour in the colour file and click OK.
The software will automatically switch back to AVA and the layer chip
will display the new colour. |
| |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
RECOLOURING FROM THE ACTIVE PALETTE |
| |
|
| |
The active colour file can also be accessed directly from the Colourway
layer chips as a palette of colours. Viewing the colour file as a
palette is advantageous if you want to see all the colours in the
colour file at once. |
| |
|
| 1. |
Click and hold on a colour chip in the Colourway palette.
The palette will appear for as long as the cursor is held down. |
| |
| |
|
| |
  |
| |
|
| 2. |
While holding, drag over the palette to select a colour.
The chosen colour will be highlighted in the palette and the layer
colour will change once the cursor is released. |
| |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
RECOLOURING USING THE SELECTED COLOUR PICKER |
| |
|
| |
Colours are chosen from the selected colour picker to provide a
bigger range of colours than a basic colour file, because colour pickers
hold millions of screen colours. The brightness, hue and saturation
of the colour can be changed on screen. As picker colours only have
screen values, they can be linked back to a colour file for accurate
colour matching to the print. |
| |
|
| 1. |
Hold down the Option key and click on one of the colour
chips in the Colourway palette. A colour picker will open on screen.
If the colour in the picker starts off black, increase the lightness
bar to reveal brighter colours. |
| |
| |
|
| |
  |
| |
|
| 2. |
Move the cursor around the picker or alter the settings
in the window to choose a new colour. The colours you click on in
the window will update simultaneously in the design so there is no
need to commit to a colour until you like its effect in the design. |
| |
| |
|
| 3. |
Click OK to accept the chosen colour. The new colour will be named
‘Picker’ as it has been chosen from a colour picker. |
| |
|
| |
Note: If you double click on the layer chip of the new picker colour,
the software will find the closest named colour in the active colour
file. Click OK if the named colour is acceptable. |

COPYING AND PASTING COLOURS |
| |
|
| |
Existing colours in a design can be used to quickly create alternative
Colourways of the same design or related Colourways on co-ordinating
designs. This enables you to experiment with the same colours on different
layers. |
| |
|
| |
Copying and pasting is simplest when two or more Colourways are
visible on screen. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
TO COPY ONE COLOUR |
| |
|
| 1. |
Add two Colourways to the page. |
| |
|
| 2. |
Click on the colour chip to be copied in the first Colourway. |
| |
|
| 3. |
Choose Edit > Copy. |
| |
|
| 4. |
Click on the colour chip to be changed in the second Colourway. |
| |
|
| 5. |
Choose Edit > Paste. The colour should now be visible in both
Colourways. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
TO COPY MORE THAN ONE COLOUR |
| |
|
| 1. |
Click on one of the colour chips to be copied. |
| |
|
| 2. |
Hold down the Shift key and click on the other colours
to be copied. They should all become highlighted. |
| |
| |
|
| 3. |
Choose Edit > Copy. |
| |
|
| 4. |
Select the same number of colours in the second Colourway. |
| |
|
| 5. |
Choose Edit > Paste. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
TO COPY COLOURS FROM ONE DESIGN TO ANOTHER |
| |
|
| 1. |
Open the Quick Colourways windows for two different designs. |
| |
|
| 2. |
Click on the colours to be copied from the first design. |
| |
|
| 3. |
Choose Edit > Copy. |
| |
|
| 4. |
Click in the Quick Colourways window of the second design and select
the colour chips to be changed. |
| |
|
| 5. |
Choose Edit > Paste. Both designs will now display the same set
of colours. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
COPYING AND PASTING COLOURWAYS |
| |
|
| |
All of the Colourways saved with a particular design can be copied
and pasted to another design. This can be extremely helpful if, for
example, you want to copy a complete range of Colourways to a co-ordinating
design. |
| |
|
| 1. |
View your design in the Quick Colourways window and make sure all
the layers are visible and active. |
| |
|
| 2. |
Highlight all the colour chips. |
| |
|
| 3. |
Choose Colourways > Copy All Colourways. |
| |
|
| 4. |
Open the design you wish to copy the colours to and open its Quick
Colourways window. |
| |
|
| 5. |
Make all the layers visible and active. |
| |
|
| 6. |
Highlight all the colour chips. |
| |
|
| 7. |
Choose Colourways > Paste All Colourways. |
| |
|
| |
Every Colourway that you created in the original design will be
transferred to the second design. |
| |
|
| |
Note: If there are any Colourways in the destination file when you
choose Paste all Colourways, they will be over written by the copied
Colourways. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
DRAGGING AND DROPING COLOURS |
| |
|
| |
Colours can be copied between layers, Colourways and designs by
dragging and dropping them. It can be a useful way of moving colours
to test different colour combinations without having to copy and paste
them. |
| |
|
| |
The Drag and Drop features works not only with images and layers
but also with colours. It is really straightforward to use and can
be done in the Design window or in the Quick Colourways window. |
| |
|
| |
Before using the Drag and Drop function, you need to activate or
adjust its settings located in AVA > Preferences > Layer Palette...
> Drag and Drop or in the side menu of the Layers window and select
Layer Palette Preferences... > Drag and Drop. |
| |
|
| |
  |
| |
|
| |
Activate the Spring-loaded documents option. Without this, it would
not be possible to drag and drop colours between files. |
| |
|
| |
The delay of the Spring-loaded document option depends on the setting
selected in the Layer Palette Preferences. Simply adjust the slider
to make it faster or slower. |
| |
|
| |
The Dropped Layers option does not apply to dragging and dropping
colours between files. |
| |
|
| |
Tip If you want to make sure you are not dragging and dropping layers
instead of colours, set your Dropped Layers option to Ignore. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
DRAG AND DROP A COLOUR INTO ANOTHER FILE |
| |
|
| |
In this example, we have activated the Spring-loaded documents option
and set Dropped Layers to Ignore. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
From one Design window to another: |
| |
|
| 1. |
Before dragging a layer, make sure you have easy access
to the destination file. You might prefer to reduce the size of the
windows or use the Tile Windows option in order to view the destination
file. |
| |
| |
|
| 2. |
Position the cursor over the colour you want to move,
click and hold, then drag away towards another Design window of a
different file. |
| |
| |
|
| 3. |
After a few seconds, the destination document will appear in front
of all open files. |
| |
|
| 4. |
Now go to the Layers window, place and drop the colour
on top of an existing one. `The blue outline around the layer colour
indicates where the colour will be dropped. |
| |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
From a Design window to a Quick Colourways window: |
| |
|
| 1. |
Before dragging a layer, make sure you have easy access
to the destination file. You might prefer to reduce the size of the
windows or use the Tile Windows option in order to view the destination
file. |
| |
| |
|
| 2. |
Position the cursor over the colour you want to move,
click and hold, then drag away towards a Quick Colourways window of
a different file. |
| |
| |
|
| 3. |
After a few seconds, the destination document will appear in front
of all open files. |
| |
|
| 4. |
Now place the colour over a chip in the colour palette
of a Quick Colourways object and drop the colour on top of it. The
blue outline around the colour indicates where the colour will be
dropped. |
| |
| |
|
| |
Dragging and dropping works in exactly the same way in Quick Colourways
as it does anywhere else in the software. Click on a colour chip in
the palette and drag it to another colour chip. The colour will be
moved to the new location but will also remain on the original chip. |
| |
|
| |
You cannot move more than one colour at once by dragging and dropping. |
