Biographical
Statement
She received bachelor of industrial design degree from Middle East Technical University-Turkey, 2005. She holds a M.Sc. in Industrial product design, from Istanbul Technical University, Turkey, 2008, along with a postgraduate certificate in design from Sheffield Hallam University, UK, 2007.
She is interested in both design discourse and design as a practice. She was exhibitor in Milan Furniture Fair twice in 2007 and 2004. Her paper* presented in the 7th European Academy of Design Conference in 2007 received the best paper award in design management category (commemorating Joao Branco). Before starting her PhD, she was working for IKEA as a in-store visual designer.
Research Interests
She started her PhD studies in October, 2010. Her research subject is design thinking: the development of a theoretical framework for the application of Innovation Strategies used within Small to Medium Sized Enterprises. She is based in c4di, working with Julian Malins and Sue Fairburn.
What triggers her research is creative problem solving, ideation, observing and seeing how things fit in an overall pattern, building theories and processing them.
Personal Statement
Knowledge should be publicly open. Openness is the beginning of exploratory, creative research. She supports open source and participatory design processes.
