STUART JOHNSTONE

Biographical Statement
Professional Photographer and Application Supervisor, Gray’s School of Art. This career combination, has given me inspiration to create many aspects of my work, including exhibitions in landscape photography and architecture, Professional practise has lead to photographs used in Modo, the international review of design culture (Milan), and a cover picture for the Royal Institute of British Architecture (RIBA). Food photography has also been an aspect of my work, which has lead to the publication of three cookbooks I have also worked on two major historical photographic publications one Scottish the other Irish. Much of my image capture is now digital and can be seen on many web-sites. I am a professional member of the Royal Photographic Society and the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers.

Personal Statement
Exploration of the photographic medium and collaboration with a wide range of practitioners, designers, artists and external clients, as well as with the student as an educator, for the creative documentation and communication of work, this is central to my practice. The goal is to produce pure unmanipulated photographs that utilize the full technical capabilities of the camera.
Having understood high-end digital photography for several years and having applied it to my practice, this has opened up the possibility of new interpretation and expression. I am happy to capitalise on the mystique of the photographic image conjured up with the computer and with this in mind I can apply and translate my ideas to various digital and conventional out-puts.
