Personal Statement
My research focuses on questions of definitions of Art and Design. Through analysis of the processes, perceptions, forms, contexts and locations of contemporary art and design, I plan to evidence particularities of these cultural fields thereby enabling a meaningful and useful understanding of how, why, where and when 'things' are identified and categorized as art and/or design.
My research manifests itself in the making of public exhibitions and projects and I take the view that these are cultural products in a similar way to art works or pieces of design. I believe that audiences are key within the cultural system of art and design. Therefore my interest lies with ways in which individuals can be encouraged, stimulated and facilitated to engage with and explore art and design meaningfully and with perception.
My RAE research outputs contribute to the Art and the Public Sphere thematic.
