LENNOX DUNBAR
Biographical
Statement
Lennox
Dunbar studied Painting at Gray’s School of Art, before taking
up a position of etching technician at Peacock Printmakers in Aberdeen.
In this capacity he worked with many International Artists in publishing
limited edition prints. In 1978 he was invited to set up the Amsterdam
studio for the Scottish Arts council. He returned to Grays School of
Art in 1986 to become Subject Leader in Printmaking. He has been given
many National and International Awards including A William Gillies Award
in 1999 from the Royal Scottish Academy, which allowed him to work for
a period at The Printmaking Center in Santa Fe New Mexico. As a result
of this he has conducted workshops there every year since. Recent research
has resulted in invitations to participate in International Printmaking
Exhibitions in Hungary, India, Bulgaria, Poland and the USA. Invitations
have also been received recently to exhibit Paintings in Florida, Montana
and Idaho USA.

Personal Statement
My work mimics and inverts processes of archaeology through the media of printmaking and painting. The working and reworking of surface through degrees of chance and control create the phenomenon of landscape. The iconography draws primarily from the NE of Scotland, not through representation, but by evoking empathy for particular values and sensibilities existing in that landscape. I have evolved the means, over time, of constructing works that sustain the potential for perpetual discovery.
The value of this, has been recognised by national and International Awards, and connection to the galleries and workshops shown under the web site links to the left.
