CAMERON CRADDOCK
Biographical Statement
Cameron is currently a Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader in Communication Design at Gray's School of Art. He has over 12 years experience of creative practice within the design industries and teaches across a variety of design related subjects with particular interests in graphic design, digital media, 3D visualisation, CAD/CAM and rapid prototyping technologies.
Prior to and throughout his appointment Cameron has gained wide-ranging experience as a practicing designer, creative director and project manager working with a number of companies on a variety of digital design related projects including the creation and implementation of internet web sites, corporate literature brochures and advertising materials. In addition he has assisted with the production of motion graphics and sound tracks for television and film.
Through his knowledge of design software he has also contributed to the development of new consumer products, the progress of industrial design related projects for the oil & gas industry and the construction of exhibition stands and commercial interiors.
Cameron was initially offered a part-time teaching position in 1999 with responsibilities for teaching design visualisation techniques across both the BA and BSc programmes. In 2002 he accepted a full time teaching post on the Product Design course and was responsible for the setup and integration of a rapid prototyping facility within the curriculum and faculty, encouraging technology transfer and consultancy between the University and external companies. In 2004 he successfully obtained a Post Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Level Teaching before being promoted to Subject Leader for the BDes Design for Digital Media course. In 2009 he was appointed as Programme Leader in Communication Design with responsibility for four undergraduate design courses.
Cameron has an enthusiastic entrepreneurial approach and is keen to assist and support students with the design, development and promotion of potential new ideas and products for the marketplace. He recently won a NESTA Design Innovation Award and was a steering committee member for Design Connexity; the 8th International Conference of the European Academy of Design which Gray's hosted in 2009.

Personal Statement
I have a particular interest in design visualisation software and customised product development and consult across a variety of design related disciplines advising companies on aspects of digital media, 3D modelling, CAD/CAM and rapid prototyping applications. I am keen to investigate the utilisation of these and other associated software technologies; developing knowledge and techniques whilst exploring the integration of new and innovative processes in contemporary design practice.
Recent research activity has focussed on socially-oriented design initiatives (Streetsport RGU); exploring the role of the designer in reducing crime and anti-social behaviour whilst encouraging health promotion and social integration. Through the application of design method and process I have been looking at ways in which designers can apply their skills to beneficial use both in terms of sustainability, inclusivity and the local community.
Teaching and learning interests currently involve building on the initial success and continued development of the Communication Design Programme which produces graduates to satisfy the demand for creative designers in the fast moving and exciting field of new media production. The Programme continues to maintain and expand on our extensive links with industry; ensuring students gain relevant ‘real world’ experience and develop the necessary skills required of today's digital designers. Graduates are highly employable and develop a range of transferable skills whilst studying on the courses. In recent years the programme has achieved an enviable first destination employment record that reflects current industry demand.
