So why study at
the Robert Gordon University?
Where is it?
RGU has two campuses in Aberdeen, the oil capital of Europe. In the heart
of the city centre the attractive 19th-century Schoolhill campus houses
the schools of engineering, computing and pharmacy. Overlooking the River
Dee, the beautiful parkland campus at Garthdee is home to the Sir Norman
Foster designed Aberdeen Business School, the brand new Faculty of Health
and Social Care, Gray’s School of Art
and The Scott Sutherland School (Architecture and the Built Environment).
There is also a £10m
RGU Sports and
leisure centre.
How many
students?
There are 8,175 undergraduates, and a total of 10,372 students.
Why should you go?
When it comes to graduate employment, The Robert Gordon
University is Scotland’s top university for careers and second only to
Cambridge in the UK, according to the Higher Education Statistics Agency.
RGU’s degree programmes have been designed in partnership with industry
and the professions to ensure graduates meet the demands of the real
world. RGU has been top of the graduate employment league in Scotland for
the past 10 years. The faculty of health and social care, the faculty of
design and technology and the Aberdeen Business
School offer more than 100 degree courses.
How does it
rate?
The Higher Education Statistics Agency found that Robert Gordon graduates
were more likely to find employment or go on to further studies than
graduates from any other Scottish university.
What would
you need to get in?
Robert Gordon takes experience and academic qualifications into account.
For example: physiotherapy BBBB Highers or BBB at A-level are required;
for management courses BBCC Highers and CCC at A-level; for mechanical
engineering BBBB Highers and CCC
at A-level.
How much?
A
self-catered room in university accommodation costs £59-£76 a week.
Private rents cost from £50 a week. A pint costs £2.50 in town and 99p to
£1.30 at the student union.
How easy is
it to get to?
Cheap and regular rail, air and bus connections from Aberdeen.

Why did you
choose your university/college?
The Robert Gordon University (RGU) has a good reputation with employers
and is known for its links with industry.
Why did you
choose your degree course?
This was very much one of the flagship courses that the university ran.
What was the
student accommodation like?
The accommodation in the first year put me at the heart of the social
scene in the university.
Was it easy
to get part-time paid work?
Aberdeen is a prospering city and plenty of part-time work is available in
bars and shops.
Have you done
any jobs, and if so what?
I
was employed by Aberdeen Football Club to offer assistance in the running
of their website. Every student at RGU has to undertake a placement during
their course.
Were you a
member of any society?
I
was goalkeeper for the university football team - still waiting for
Aberdeen FC to give me a chance!
Was there a
good students’ union?
The Robert Gordon
University union has been recently renovated, and it sells the cheapest
beer in Aberdeen.
What was the
nightlife like?
The club scene is one of the best in Scotland.

pubs/clubs for students:
Too many to mention.
Do you have
any advice to students about to start their course?
They should enjoy university, as it is among the best years of your life.
At the same time, a good degree is important in today’s competitive
employment market.
How do I apply to the course?
Applying to Art School can seem like an overwhelming experience, whether
you’re just leaving school, stepping up from college or have decided to
change jobs and retrain. It’s hard to know where to start or what to
expect so here is some information which might help you.

When should I apply to the course?
• Route A - You
should submit your application form between September and January. We will consider all applications received at UCAS
before June (if places are still available). After this date your
application will be held for ‘Clearing’ (see below).
The deadline date for applications is 30th June.
Applications received after 30th June are then entered into
Clearing.
