Title: An Unknown Presence
Statement:
Modern art is rightly thought of by the general populace as being over conceptualised nonsense, or the primitive daubing which any nursery school based child could have produced by using a sheet of paper as a placemat whilst eating spaghetti. My work feeds out of a strong sense of tradition and storytelling to create contemporary snapshots from imaginary movies. These paintings are projected far ahead of the bland norm, who consciously/conceitedly attempt the impossible; to be “original”. Inevitably they end up regurgitating the past. You can’t return to year zero, so why try? Instead of getting wound up in the highbrow “concept” and technical innovations it is now time to start enjoying the act of painting what we see and feel. “Narrative” is not a dirty word. “Modest cost” and “Studio Fund” are offensive phrases.
