Statement The removal of recognisable imagery from my work has given me the freedom to explore the nature of paint and the problems of creating an image. I want to create space that doesn’t just relying on the ancient ordered notion of space. Perspective to me is invisible, and though the classic treatment of perspective has been challenged, the personal dilemma of space and surrounding carries on. Science and art history seem to push artists into corners consciously and unconsciously, perhaps these man-made concepts of order can be obliterated with a sloppy paintbrush. I want to choose what laws to obey and to create my own corner where I can sit, for a while.
