Brother punch card knitting- for machines KH-840 & KH-881

General instructions

The Card Lock lever symbols are as follows: -
Means the punch card is locked even if the carriage the moving.
Means the punch card is rotated by movement of the carriage.
Means the punch card is rotating only when the carriage moves from right to left, i.e.
every 2 rows, giving an elongated image.

1. Cast on and knit several rows, finish with the carriage on the left.

2. Insert punch card, clip together, set to starting line and set the Card Lock mark.

3. Set the Change Knob to the KC position.

4. Move the carriage from left to right – the needles have been selected to B and D positions.

5. Set the Card Lock Lever to??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

6. Set the Cam Button/s to appropriate settings.

7. You are now ready to start knitting using the punch card..

Fair Isle Knitting
Follow actions 1-5

6. Select the MC Cam Button.

7. Thread contrast yarn into feeder B.

8. Continue to knit till you Fair Isle pattern is complete.


Tuck and slip stitch knitting
Again follow actions 1-5

6. If you are knitting a Tuck pattern then select both TUCK Cam buttons and when knitting a slip pattern select both PART Cam Buttons.

7. Then with the main colour only continue to knit un-till you pattern is complete.

For Two Colour Tuck and Slip stitch patterns all actions remain as above but you must change your yarn colour in feeder A every 2 rows.

Weave- With out a punch card

1. Cast no and knit several rows as normal.

2. Set the weaving pattern brushes from N to W.T.

3. Push every 3rd needle to E position on the needle bed and lay your weaving yarn over them, leaving the waste end of the yarn hanging at the same side as the K- carriage.

4. Hold the yarn firmly and take the carriage across; the weave yarn should be knitted in.

5. Again push every 3rd needle into E position, lay the yarn over and take the carriage back again.

6. Continue in this way till your sample is complete.

Lace
For any lace pattern punch card you must use a lace carriage.
There are only two settings on this carriage, N for normal lace and F for fine lace.

1. Cast on and knit several rows, finish with the K-carriage on the right.

2. Insert your chosen card, clip together, set to starting line and set the card lock lever to the circle.

3. Set your lace carriage to either N or F which ever is appropriate to the pattern and move the carriage from left to right.

4. The pattern needles have been selected so set the card lock lever to and move back to the left.

5. Continue to move the lace carriage following the punch card instructions till instructed to move the K-carriage left to right.

6. Continue in this way till your pattern is complete.
