Sue Barnard
Qualifications:
PhD, MSc (Rehabilitation Sciences), Diploma in Physiotherapy, MCSP.
Background:
Sue’s clinical background is in Neuro Physiotherapy in long term chronic conditions, elderly and paediatrics (in patients, outpatients, day hospitals, schools, community). Her academic background is as a lecturer in Physiotherapy at Southampton University (1995 - 2004), honorary lecturer in Healthcare, University of Portsmouth, 2003 - present, senior lecturer, RGU (P/T) 2006- present. Sue’s RGU role is as joint research co-ordinator for SHS, supporting research teaching and practice.
Research Interests:
Sue’s past research is in long term chronic conditions, clinicians understanding of and engagement with evidence based practice, outcome measurement, attitudes of new graduate physiotherapists to older people and therapeutic relationships. She specialises in qualitative methods with most experience in grounded theory approach. Sue’s current research interests are in biographical disruption in long term chronic illness, the role of friendship in clinician/patient relationships and its impact on outcome and the process of systematic reviews.
Role in the MSc team:
Clinical Tutor. Sue provides research support and input into module design.
