UK EThOS
|
This list has been started following the seminar 'A Future for UK Theses', held on 22nd January 2004. This seminar presented the current findings and results from the JISC-funded Electronic Theses project, as well as presenting views on e-theses from the British Library, the UK Council for Graduate Education, and on the broader research perspective involving e-prints. The benefits of e-theses, including discovery, access, delivery, preservation, storage, flexibility of content, effective administration etc, were all discussed to some degree. Following on from the seminar, the E-Theses-UK discussion list has been created to do exactly that - encourage discussion of e-theses and how they can be implemented within institutions. The seminar revealed a thirst for information; the Electronic Theses and other JISC-funded FAIR projects on e-theses are investigating a wide range of the issues involved and will present their findings as they become known over time. The projects themselves will benefit from contributions and questions from those thinking of e-theses in both HE and FE. It was also clear from the seminar that there is a large amount of knowledge and opinions on e-theses already present in the community, and this list will seek to act as a focus for these as a means of stimulating the debate and discussion on e-theses within the UK. A key part of any ongoing discussion on e-theses will be the involvement of all the parties concerned with theses: students, academics, librarians, registrars etc. All play a part and so all with hold a view. Please use this list as a means to express those views so that e-theses development can take place to suit the needs of all concerned. To join the list, send an email
