Undergraduate IPE

 

Stage 1

Curative Education is a multi-disciplinary professional approach concerned with the physical, emotional and spiritual well being of children and adults with special/complex needs. It encompasses care, education, craft and artistic activities and a medical, therapeutic element. Pathology: BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy, BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy, BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography. Health In A Changing World: BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy, BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography and BSc (Hons) Sports and Exercise Science.

Note: BA in Curative Education is a degree structured over four years on a part-time basis with work based practice experience.

Neurology in Practice: Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy Practical Community-Based Experience: During these sessions, Phase II MBChB students shadow a member of the multidisciplinary team and feed back their experiences to a group of peers “The Practice and its Team: During these sessions for Phase II MBChB students the tutor brings in a range of professionals from the Primary Health Care Team to discuss their role Practice Analysis: Diagnostic Radiography, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy Measurement and Evaluation: Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Diagnostic Radiography and Sports and Exercise Science To read a short paper outlining the background, methodology and evaluation of these workshops piloted in autumn 2006 click here Mind, Body And Society: Occupational Therapy, Diagnostic Radiography and Physiotherapy Health and Well-Being of the Older Person: Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy “Patient Visit”: Pairs of Phase II MBChB students make a home visit to a patient with a chronic illness or disability, consider the role of the multidisciplinary team in the patient’s treatment and present their findings to their peers


Stage 3

Comparative Health Care: Year 3 students undertake a placement abroad and are supported by nurses and academics in these countries Facilitating Learning and Mentoring: Students from all routes and branches of nursing and the midwifery programme as well as to qualified nurses – the course  underpins the knowledge required for the development of skills for teaching and mentoring Applied Midwifery / Nursing Research Nursing / Midwifery and Health Policy Online IPODc course: A 5 week course for Stage 3 medical and pharmacy students. Stage 4

Stage 4: Interprofessional tutorials and group work between students from the School of Pharmacy at the Robert Gordon University and students from the Medical School at the University of Aberdeen Comparative Health and Social Work The Professional Working Environment: Occupational Therapy, Diagnostic Radiography and Physiotherapy Staff nurses and final year medical students (as part of their surgical block) also take part in a one-day “Care of the Critically Ill” course. This takes the form of an interactive intensive day with some lectures but mostly small group activities and discussion. Although it is taught mainly by medics there is always at least one senior nurse and very often a senior physiotherapist involved. Spirituality, Health And Healing Final year pharmacy students from the Robert Gordon University also take part in an interactive one day series of events with final year medical students from the University of Edinburgh Interdisciplinary Practice: Social Work and Nursing Students Research Project: Occupational Therapy, Diagnostic Radiography, Physiotherapy  and Sport and Exercise Science

There is also a wide range of interprofessional education which takes place at postgraduate level in Aberdeen however the main focus of this web page is at an undergraduate level.
