A project to serve interactive campus maps on the Internet, for RGU, has been recently completed. A series of seven small maps has been produced, which show RGU in the context of Aberdeen together with a more detailed view of each campus. The maps were produced by digitizing the RGU paper campus maps using ArcView. The maps are stored as shapefiles, which are accessed using GeoTools. GeoTools is an open source Java application whose development is lead by a team in the University of Leeds Geography Department. GISUtrac has made use of GeoTools by writing Java applets that access the main GeoTools Java class collections. The campus maps will be enhanced in the future but provide a much needed Internet version of the old campus plan leaflet.

Although GISUtrac has been unofficially in existence for about a year, core funds were recently secured that means the unit now has official recognition. A business Plane was successfully submitted to a Robert Gordon's University Trust to win the funds in competition from other units throughout the University. This is a tremendous boost for the unit as it frees staff time to work on GISUtrac's development.
